IGGY POP is SADISTIK! Diabolikal Super-Kriminal Unmasked as Rock Legend!

Comicfix is very excited to announce that Iggy Pop, the wildest man in rock 'n' roll history, is set to portray the voice of Sadistik, the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal in a new animated series, Sadistik: Strip & Kill, directed by Mort Todd. While the details are still being worked out, there is no one more suitable in the world to bring the legendary King of Crime from the comic pages to animated life!

Iggy Pop has earned millions of fans from his amazing talent as singer, songwriter and actor and brings his immeasurable raw power to the role of Sadistik. His seminal band Iggy and the Stooges, inspired hundreds of thousands of punk and hard rock bands and his songs, including Lust for Life, Real Wild Child and China Girl are recognized classics.

The Sadistik photo novels have sold innumerable copies worldwide in many languages and has a large cult following, due in part to some offbeat 1960s action films from Turkey. Since 2005, Comicfix has been releasing the Sadistik comics in English for the first time.

Mort Todd has had a long career in comics, film, TV, animation and music production working with such companies as Marvel Comics, MTV and Playboy. In 2007 he produced the critically acclaimed documentary about Sadistik called The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal. Mort's company Comicfix produces music videos, animation and publishes comics.

Sadistik: Strip & Kill will be an animated 7-part mini-series created for the web and is loosely based on the 1966 photo novel and 1967 Turkish film of the same name. In it, Sadistik, along with his statuesque companion Dana, attempts to steal a top secret formula, battling gangsters and spies also after the formula, all the while trying to keep a step ahead of the authorities.

Other musicians have already recorded parts for the series including Matt Verta-Ray of the band Heavy Trash, British songstress Gemma Ray and Charles E. Hall, who recorded the song Beware: Sadistik for The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal film. Bands are also contributing to the soundtrack with the first video, They Call Him Sadistik by Psycho Charger, already released. Many other surprises are to be announced concerning other well-known personalities providing voices for the series.

Liv Tyler's Acting Debut... and the SADISTIK Connection!

Mort Todd, writer of the SADISTIK photo novels, has been professionally involved in comics since he was a teenager, and became Editor-in-Chief of Cracked Magazine at 23. He quickly turned the title from a fifth-rate Mad imitation to a third-rate one.

Almost 20 years before he started publishing SADISTIK, the premier photo comic, Mort dabbled in the medium at Cracked. Nanny Dickering was a long-running strip in the magazine, most notably drawn by the legendary King of Pin-Ups, cartoonist Bill Ward. Nanny would do satiric interviews with the "Kings" of various industries (from skateboards to hamburgers, along with celebrities) and Mort got it in his head to create a photo comic based on the feature.

Who better to portray Nanny than an actual former Playboy Playmate? Model and musician Bebe Buell was essayed to play the role of the voluptuous Cracked interviewer and Mort himself played the role of the "Rock Video King." The photos were shot by Kevin McMahon, a talented TV director and producer who went on to produce TV series for such icons as Howard Stern, Jackie Mason and Geraldo Rivera (he was there when Geraldo got his nose busted)!

One of the characters was portrayed by musician Charles E. Hall, who went on to record the revered "Beware: Sadistik!" theme song used in The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal film about the King of Crime. The song is also used for the Kickstarter Sadistik animation video that just premiered.

Most interestingly, the photo comic also showcased the media premiere of future blockbuster movie star Liv Tyler! Long before Lord of the Rings and other memorable feature films, Bebe's daughter Liv made her debut in a cameo as a secretary in a Cracked magazine photo comic!

He has worked with many celebrities in the past and is drawing many of them together today to create voices for the project.

Here's a new SADISTIK pin-up by Mort Todd that will appear on the back cover of the next issue of the Italian sci-fi comic, INNER SPACE. The title "Terrore nello Spazio" (Terror in Space) was the original title of Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires and follows the tradition of original Sadistik photo novel titles based on films.

R.I.P. Rasta Artist Tennyson Smith

One of my favorite artists, and a true friend, Tennyson Smith, recently passed away. He was a fantastic oil painter, but that medium also may have led to his death by leukemia at a much too young age. Perhaps not well known by comic fans, he was the only Rastafari artist to work at Marvel Comics.

A great pleasure in my life was to produce the Bob Marley biography Tale of the Tuff Gong as Editor-in-Chief of the Marvel Music line. We worked closely with the Marley family and estate through Bob's Tuff Gong Records Art Director Neville Garrick, who had painted some of Bob's album covers. I chose veteran Marvel artist Gene Colan (Iron Man, Daredevil, Tomb of Dracula) to pencil the series because of his cinematic layouts, but we wanted the finishes to be true to Bob's Jamaican and Rasta roots.

Neville introduced me to Tennyson, or Jimmy as he was also known, and he was the perfect artist to do the completed art. He did full oil painting over Gene's layouts and gave them a superb look that only a native Jamaican could bring to the project.

We spent a lot of time together and Tennyson gave the books a true Rasta perspective and opened my mind to an intense philosophy. Due to Marvel's distribution ineptitude (the graphic novels were only shipped to comic shops and not record or book stores as intended) only the first two books, Iron and Lion, were released and the final chapter Zion was completed but never released. Ever since then I have been working with the Marley estate to get the three graphic novels packaged as one trade paperback... so far with no luck.

Tennyson painted the three covers himself (plus a cover for the planned paperback edition) along with an incredible 10 page supplement that was a history of Jamaica and the Rastafari. Hopefully this reverent comic will again see print and enjoy the wide audience it truly deserves.

While at Marvel I also commissioned Jimmy to paint some covers for some horror titles. He did some wild covers featuring the muck-encrusted Man Thing and the Zombie from the classic Bill Everett comic.

After I left Marvel, I worked with Tennyson as much as possible and helped him sell some artwork including pieces from a series of African warrior paintings.

Recently I used Jimmy as a voice artist for an animated series about Sadistik, The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal. Jimmy played a character named Vex, who helps the King of Crime procure weapons and gets involved in other shenanigans. His character was inspired by the Rasta 'suffarahs' who faced persecution in the 1960s when the series is set.

Over the last six months of his life he kept painting, though he had switched from oils to watercolor. I miss Jimmy an awful lot and the world is really missing out on a uniquely awesome talent and his potential. I hope we can get the Marley book back in print to serve as a permanent testimony to his amazing skills.

I know with Jah as his guide he is in a place where Bob is able to express his thanks and praise for Tennyson's contribution to the understanding of the Rasta.

Satanik (1968) is based on the Bunker/Magnus comic about a withered old hag who turns into a beautiful young woman after drinking a formula... beautiful but evil! The film, directed by Piero Vivarelli is infamous for the Diabolik-inspired strip tease performed by star Magda Konopka.

The DIABOLIKAL SUPER-KRIMINAL documentary about the history of SADISTIK headlines a free screening of films based on the dark comics of the 1960s on April 15th near the historic Trevi Fountain!

There will also be a panel about the comics-film connection moderated by Stefano Coccia and Pierpaolo De Sanctis with actors from the SADISTIK photo comics including Aldo Agliata (SADISTIK himself!), Giancarlo Borrelli son of SADISTIK director Rosario Borelli), Corrado Farina (director of BABA YAGA), Vito "Italiano Tarzano" Fornari, Gabriella Giorgelli, Piero Vivarelli (director of MISTER X and SATANIK).

(The following is translated from the Italian promotion. To read in Italian click HERE)

The principal heroes in tights of the 1960s have often passed from the monochromatic world of the nero fumetto (noir comics) to the multi-colored film screen, by masters like Mario Bava, whose Danger: Diabolik is a celebration of conceptual Pop Art, or from inventive filmmakers like Umberto Lenzi (Kriminal), Fernando Cerchio (Il marchio di Kriminal) or Piero Vivarelli (Satanik). The sadism of these prototypes is followed by the eroticism of the later 60s: from the joyful pacifism of Barbarella, carried to the screens by Roger Vadim in 1967, to the more morbid and spicy Isabella, shot by Sergio Corbucci in 1969. But the story of the Italian exchanges between cinema and comics, in big part, is still to be written, investigating the syntactic connections in the second half of the sixties, crossing transversally psychedelia, exoticism, technological fascination, psychoanalysis, feminism and aesthetic sadism. Those films include the imaginative kitsch of improbable heroes masked like Superargo, Fenomenal, Flashman or Fantabulous, which serve a special function.

In order to try to define the transition of these media hybrids, particularly the most wicked one of all, SADISTIK (known in Italy as Killing), exists the documentary of SS-Sunda. His film THE DIABOLIKAL SUPER-KRIMINAL, researches not only the origin of the photo comic directed by the actor Rosary Borelli, but interviews the actors almost forty year later (from the actresses Erna Shurer and Gabriella Giorgelli, well-known for their film roles, to actor who portrayed Killing, revealing his true identity at the end), and reconsts the historical and cultural context of its origins, including interviews with expert comics connoisseurs like Roman Scavolini and Corrado Farina. It is not accidental that the before the screening of SS-Sunda's documentary is the second film of Farina, Baba Yaga, adapted from the Valentina comic of Guido Crepax, which challenged the sexual taboos of the period. And to represent the world of the neri cinefumetti (noir comic films) in which THE DIABOLIKAL SUPER-KRIMINAL lurks, comes Mister X by Piero Vivarelli, one of the darker and nihilistic titles of the vein. The DIABOLIKAL SUPER-KRIMINAL Steals onto the Screen!

The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal, a new documentary about the King of Crime (known variously around the world as Killing, Satanik, Kilink and Sadistik), premiered recently at the Nightmare Film Festival in Ravenna, Italy and at a prestigious Bologna cinema to much fanfare and literally stole the show!

The image of the Diabolikal One has been appearing in Italian media to herald the film release, including on the front page of newspapers! And though not in the official competition at the Nightmare Film Festival (where Sadistik biographer and DSK producer Mort Todd served on the jury), an exit poll by the horror film fanzine L'Urlo (The Scream) gave it a rating of 8.1 out of 10... above such films as Adam Green's Hatchet, Uwe Boll's Seed and the competition winner, Kostantin Lopushansky's The Ugly Swans! L'Urlo also gave DSK a glowing review in their special Nightmare Festival edition following a very positive profile in Italy's premier horror magazine Nocturno.

The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal, fantastically and fanatically directed by SS-Sunda, is an amazing 100% true profile of the masked serial killer who began his international wave of terror in 1966. After some background on the socio-political, religious and psychological status of 1960s Italy, the documentary relates the history of nero fumetto (noir comics) with their evil protagonists, and the foto romanzo (photo comics) unique to Italy which set the stage for Sadistik's horrific photo novels!

Director Sunda did some dedicated research and dug up much previously unknown information on the creation of the character and provides entertaining and amusing interviews with the actors from the photo comics. Many of them appeared in now classic horror, spaghetti western and Euro Trash films and give great insight on why the comic series was so unique, popular and controversial.

The interviews are intercut with rare graphics and footage from the era along with new footage of Sadistik in outrageous action. The film has the added benefit of a great original score composed by a cadre of international musical artists. A new music video featuring the closing track of the documentary and clips from the film has just been released.

But the most stunning aspect is that Sunda has done what many in the original comics have died trying... he has unmasked the King of Crime and reveals his true identity! The actor who played Sadistik was originally under contract to not publicize who he was. Even the other actors on the set never saw him without his mask while they worked together for years!

There was electrical anticipation for the world premiere of DSK at the Nightmare Film Festival and seats for the screening filled up quickly. Festival organizer Alberto Bucci introduced producer Mort Todd and served as translator for the mostly Italian audience. Mort welcomed the audience, primed them about what they were to witness and then brought out the original mystery actor wearing his infamous Mask of Death to raucous applause.

The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal then took a seat next to the beautiful actress Liliana Chiari (from Fellini's The Clowns and a regular in the Sadistik photo novels) to watch his namesake film. (For the time being, the true identity of the actor who portrayed Sadistik is being kept secret, though revealed in the film.)

After the screening, Sadistik unmasked in person to wild reaction and travelled the audience, microphone in hand, answering questions from the fans. The Italian television network RAI taped the event and broadcast it internationally.

The next screening was at the prestigious Lumiere Cinema in Bologna to a sold-out standing room only crowd, with many disappointed cinephiles turned away. Another screening will be held there soon and there are plans to have a screening in the Italian capital of Rome in the near future.

Comicfix, the American co-producer of the film (with the Italian Sinepathic Films) and publisher of the photo novels, has been fielding requests to show the documentary at theatres and film festivals all over the world. There are also negotiations to have The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal shown in America at comic conventions and film festivals. Comicfix is also talking with major film studios about theatrical distribution and DVD release.

As my hard-core fans know, I appeared in an amazing 11 films in Turkey, mostly in the 1960s, where I was known as KiLiNK! In them I battled such luminaries as Superman, Frankenstein and Mandrake the Magician... Turkey didn't care too much about violating copyrights!

So, as a post-Thanksgiving treat, here's another heaping helping of left-over Turkey! The other track is not actually on the DSK Soundtrack but is very related! It is the Mambo-flavored "Un Flirt Per Estate" (A Summer Flirtation) as sung by Rosario Borelli. Borelli was the director of all the original Sadistik photo novels and also a film actor, singer and photo novel star before he turned to directing photo novels. Backing Rosario musically is none other than Ennio Morricone, well before he reached international stardom recording the soundtrack for "A Fistful of Dollars" (the seminal spaghetti western film starring Clint Eastwood and directed by Sergio Leone).

Actor/Singer ROSARIO BORELLI was the director of all the SADISTIK photo novels but did not play the title character as rumored. The real actor was shrouded in mystery and his identity is revealed for the first time in THE DIABOLIKAL SUPER-KRIMINAL film!

The long-awaited incredible 100% TRUE documentary about THE DIABOLIKAL SUPER-KRIMINAL is premiering at the Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest in Ravenna, Italy on Thursday, November 1st, 2007! The feature length film, directed by SS-Sunda, concerns the secret origins of the internationally infamous King of Crime known variously as Killing, Satanik, Kiling, Kilink and, in America, as Sadistik! It includes exclusive interviews with many of the personalities responsible for his reign of terror, from photographers, editorial staff and the actors that helped bring his stories to life! You will also witness startling new footage of the Diabolikal One doing what he does best... malicious mayhem! Some very interesting new music has also been recorded for the film which will soon be released on CD. Actress Erna Schurer (from STRIP NUDE FOR YOUR KILLER and other Euro horror classics), a femme fatale from the Sadistik photo novels, is in the documentary and will make an appearance at the festival along with the actor who played Sadistik... his true identity revealed for the first time ever!!!

Comicfix has just recorded a new song for the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal Dokumentary titled "Beware: Sadistik!" The song was written and performed by the Charles E. Hall Band and was debuted publicly at the Sadistik Book Release Party in New York City last July.

The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal introduces the Charles E. Hall Band including bass player Dr. Valérie Sauvé.

The song is intended for the documentary's closing credits and a video for the tune is being created by the director of the documentary, SS-Sunda.

"Beware: Sadistik!" was produced by Mort Todd, Charles E. Hall and Matt Verdery, who also engineered the powerful song. Within hours of finishing the engineering, Matt had to leave on tour with his band Heavy Trash with Jon Spencer on a whirlwind European tour. Though in France I am known as SATANIK, there is an Italian female comic book character with the same name (in France she is known as Demoniak). She was an ugly chick who takes a potion to become beautiful... and evil!

In 1968 an Italian movie was made about her, with the beautiful Magda Konopka as Satanik. As a horror movie it is sometimes weak but to spice up box office they added a "Diabolik" element to the film and the movie posters. As seen in the clip below, Magda does a striptease in a Diabolik-inspired outfit.

Mondo Macabro has produced a great documentary on Turkish Pop Cinema featuring the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal, KiLiNK! Turkish films of the 1960s & 70s were inspired by American comic books and movie serials and produced with a lot of enthusiasm if not a big budget.

Part 3 focuses on the masked men and KiLiNK in particular, who started the whole craze with interviews from director Yilmaz Atadeniz and actress Mine Soley. Dig all the cool posters, clips and photos of lost movies from an alternate reality!

Here's an entertaining take on the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal with some evil animation! Everybody's in it; Satanik, his love Dana and his adversary Inspector Mercier! This 2004 cartoon runs 36 minutes and was originally directed with a 3D program by Andres de la Hoz.

Morricone in New York debut and More Musical News!

The legendary composer Ennio Morricone made his triumphant American public premiere at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on February 3, 2007 to a packed and appreciative audience. Following the debut of his 9/11 inspired piece “Vocci del Silencio” at the United Nations the day before, the Maestro treated the Radio City crowd to select tracks from his most famous film scores.

Though some hardcore fans may have been disappointed that he didn’t play some of his more obscure horror, crime and adventure film music (sorry, no Danger! Diabolik), it was an awesome experience to see a chorus of 100+, along with the excellent soprano Susanna Rigacci, belt out the themes from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Pianist Gilda Buttà also thrilled the audience with her ivory tickling and when finished, the Maestro came back for three encores.

Morricone seemed to enjoy the audience despite his hectic New York schedule. Along with the UN and Radio City shows, he put up with a lot of interviews though many were cancelled. A friend interviewing him for Guitar Player magazine found him a difficult subject as he was told through an interpreter that he “won’t talk about guitars.”

Pushing 80, it seems Morricone would rather be appreciated for the classical music he has been composing for over 50 years than his over 400 TV and film soundtracks. His themes have become legendary signatures used by a variety of international directors with no end in sight (he has just signed on to Brian DePalma’s new Untouchables sequel), so perhaps his other compositions will be appreciated as much in the future.

Meanwhile, a new Morricone tribute album will be released this month with music by such diverse artists as Metallica, Yo Yo Ma and Celine Dion on a CD entitled “We All Love Ennio Morricone.” Click on the cover image for more information and to pre-order this future classic!

Also in New York, the Film Forum is running a Morricone Film Festival until February 22nd. Morricone also receives an long-deserved award at the Oscar ceremonies this year.

And of course, there is a Diabolikal Super-Kriminal konnection with Morricone: Besides both having Italian origins, Morricone co-composed and recorded a pop tune called “Saïda” for director Lucio Fulci’s film I due della legione straniera (1962) with Rosario Borelli, who went on to direct all of the Sadistik photo novels.

Diabolikal Super Tribute Art from Around the World!

Though an underground cult character in America, the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal has been around for 40 years and adulated internationally! Primarily a photo novel star, he appeared in two illustrated adventures in Argentina in the 1970s and recently in the American comic book Beware: SADISTIK! Scheduled for this summer is an awesome new collection of comics stories and pin-ups tentatively titled CRIMES OF SADISTIK! An incredible roster of artists from all over the world are contributing their interpretations of the King of Crime, some well-known and some future superstars! Over the coming months we'll give some teasing glimpses at the art as it comes in. We just can't hold back such powerful material!

February is Morricone in Manhattan Month!

The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal knows about valuables and one treasure he covets most is the music of film composer Ennio Morricone! Now all in the New York City area can share in the bounty when Morricone comes to Manhattan to conduct at Radio City Music Hall while two prestigious film festivals honor his work. The month is capped off when Morricone accepts a deserved Oscar for his prolific and legendary contributions to film! Trivia: The director of my original photo novels, Rosario Borelli, recorded some pop tunes with the Maestro in the early 60s!

That's composer Scott Morschhauser in the familiar outfit on the banner above and he also recently scored the music to the film The Bride Wore Blood.

FEZ is a ZOMBIE! 1st Movie Review El Muerto: Romero meets Rodriguez

As as Diabolkal Super-Kriminal I stole my way into an advance screening of a new teen zombie flick, along with my biographer, Mort Todd, who wrote the following critique. Here, then, is the FIRST movie review of the movie EL MUERTO based on the comic book by Javier Hernandez!

The MAN and His MONSTER! Creator Javier Hernandez and actor Wilmer Valderrama.
There have been zombie films, superhero flicks, Latino features and teen romance movies, but this is the first Latino zombie superhero teen romance! And this isn't your uncle's zombie film as El Muerto, unlike other members of the walking dead, can run around during the day, feel love, fight evil and he doesn't have a taste for human flesh.

The motion picture is based on the El Muerto comic by Javier Hernandez, published by Los Comex. It is one of the most faithful transfers of a comic book to the screen as adapted by director Brian Cox. The film's title sequence pays reverence to its origins, featuring art by Hernandez that evokes the opening of many Sergio Leone films (Coincidently the film is produced by unrelated Leones).

Contrary to many comic book films that take forever setting up the origin of the character, El Muerto swiftly unfolds his beginnings and gets to the action, establishing his motivation, his powers and the conflict of being a teen zombie. Young Diego (Wilmer Valderrama, yes Fez from That 70s Show) crosses Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec God of Death and has his still-beating heart (if not his soul) plucked from him. His love for his girlfriend Maria (the beautiful Angie Cepeda) helps brings him back from the Land of Death, much to the surprise of his friend Zak (Joel David Moore of Art School Confidential) and others.

A series of gruesome deaths and some omens lead them to believe the God of Death is up to no good and only Diego as El Muerto can stop him!

El Muerto has something for everyone and will even appeal to people who wouldn't be caught dead watching a zombie movie. This is a zombie film for the entire family! It has an engaging action and a romantic theme, believable special effects, great music and sound design. It boasts many incredible actors like Michael Parks (Kill Bill), Tony Plana (now in Ugly Betty), Maria Conchita Alonso and Tony Amendola. The underused and underrated Billy Drago (The Untouchables) makes an impression in a stunning performance.

Some cite the character's similarity to The Crow, but they are night and day. They're both black-clad reanimated corpses with make-up on, but that's where it ends. Whereas the Crow is dark and cynical, El Muerto is light and positive. Though hearts get ripped out and there's other gore, it's tastefully done, usually off screen though still with impact.

With Wilmer Valderrama in the lead, it should attract a wide female and teen audience. One gets the feeling that this film will ultimately have long legs on video and become a cult/mainstream favorite as the years pass. It's a great character and should inspire many fun sequels and spin-offs.

Okay, the comic strip Kriminal may have come before me, and it stars a killer in a skeleton outfit with a K instead of a C in the name, but I think I'm much cooler. A yellow outfit with black bones may look neat in a black & white comic book, but in film it comes off as goofy! But you be the judge after you look at this title sequence for the 1967 film Kriminal (featuring my current cover girl Mary Arden) and see who's got the meaner threads and cuts a more imposing figure: Me or Kriminal?

BILL WARD & SADISTIK in CAHOOTS! The King of Pin-Ups & King of Crime Konnection!

No, "cahoots" was not a mens' magazine (though it should have been), but the King of Pin-Ups, Bill Ward, did share page space with the King of Crime, Sadistik, in the 1960s! Bill Ward's cartoons, along with those of his fellow artists, Dan DeCarlo, Bill Wenzel and others, appeared in the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal's original Italian and French editions. What's more, the writer of Sadistik, Mort Todd, worked with Bill Ward at Cracked magazine and put out Bill's first art collection W.O.W.: The World of Ward.

A fun new 352 page book about cartoonist Bill Ward with over 600 illustrations is now out! As evidenced in the upcoming KILLING TIME magazine, the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal cut quite a swath through Argentina as KILING. He's such a cultural icon he still pops up here and there, and isn't it inevitable that the King of Crime would meet up with the Queen of Kink?!

This incredible art comes from the hand of Buenos Aires artist Sol Rac and more of his cool posters, featuring masked wrestlers, glamour gals, monsters and hot rods can be seen at Sol's MySpace page.

SADISTIK, in his many incarnations, has shown up in the weirdest places... from record covers to, yes, fine art! His smiling face does something to people and as he becomes more infamous in the English-speaking world, he's inspiring more artists to interpret him. The ORIGIN and DEATH of SADISTIK in BEWARE: SADISTIK #1

Available in October is BEWARE SADISTIK #1, the first comic book ever featuring the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal! This 52 page full color comic digest stars the King of Crime in his first all-new adventure in over 20 years!

The cover and lead story are written and drawn by by Mort Todd (who also adapts the SADISTIK photo novels) and is based on his TV pilot script. The publisher Comicfix is in negotiations with a production company concerning a TV series about the Imperceptible One and expects to announce news about it very soon!

The 18 page story is actually based on the opening teaser sequence from the TV script where SADISTIK is in East Berlin to steal an object of value from a degenerate Communist General. The TV series will be very true to the original photo novels and set in 1966. The first season will focus on the King of Crime's arrival in America with the beautiful Dana as he targets the scientific treasures of a corrupt industrialist who wants to crush SADISTIK. Also in the Diabolikal One's way is a joint FBI/Interpol task force dedicated to the defeat of our favorite Super-Kriminal. Thanks to his industrial espionage, SADISTIK employs technology that is fifty years ahead of his time, so he uses gimmicks we won't even see for another 10 years! An overview of the TV series is at our SADISTIK TV page where there is a heavily illustrated Top Secret Dossier on the show.

As illustrated by the page on the right, the TV show will be full of slam-bang violent action, gorgeous gals, deadly adversaries and spine-tingling suspense! The series will be like a darker James Bond or an evil Batman, set in a foreboding retro-futuristic 1960s.

Despite having a long international career in print as the star of photo novels, SADISTIK has never had his own comic book before. He has had, however, two comic stories about him printed before, featuring his untold ORIGIN and his subsequent DEATH. These rare tales appear for the first time in color and English in BEWARE SADISTIK #1!

The King of Crime had a long run in Argentina where he was known as KILING. It was so successful that after the original Italian run of photo novels was exhausted, the publisher, Ediciones Record, created new adventures with local actors and locales. They also expanded their line to include KILING paperback novels and comics. In 1974, they launched the magazine Skorpio, a black and white comics magazine featuring some of the world’s best cartoonists. Amongst strips in the first issue by Hugo Pratt and Leo Durañona was an adaptation of KILING written by Eugenio Zappietro (as Ray Collins, who also wrote the Argentine photo novels) and artist Ernesto Garcia.

While the artwork is fantastic, the plot, particularly the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal's beginnings, leaves a little to be desired. More of a generic Batman/revenge origin than proper motivation for someone to become the King of Crime, in this version he is more of a crime fighter than criminal. Though his true origin has not been revealed (yet), it is suffice to say he was not a groovy 70s French scientist before he donned the Mask of Death and there is no real explanation as to why he and Dana would have such an inseparable romance as depicted in the photo novels. Perhaps the story is disinformation put out by SADISTIK himself!

In the second issue of Skorpio, they introduced a mysterious, masked crime buster that adopted the magazine’s title and purports to relate the death of SADISTIK. Zappietro wrote the tale with the entertaining artwork of Oswal adding to the fun. His work is at times reminiscent of American cartoonists ranging from Alex Toth and Frank Robbins to Mike Sekowsky and Jim Aparo.

For some reason, they didn’t feel like continuing KILING’s adventures in comics form, so they “killed” him off in this adventure. To see the final fate of SADISTIK (at least in the Argentinian alternate reality) you must pick up this collectors' edition!

Though the only two appearances of the King of Crime in drawn (rather than photographed) comics feature very decent art, the stories don't fully exploit the potential of the character. However, these rare comics are of great interest to SADISTIK fans worldwide and are presented for the first time in English and in color within this incredible edition.

SADISTIK 1: MONSTER with a 1000 MASKS finds the King of Crime in San Francisco hatching his plan to steal millions in antique gold coins from a corrupt prince's exploding safe! Aided by his incomparable beauty, Dana, The Imperceptible One must face competing criminals, the local police (led by the implacable Inspector Grant) and deadly Communist Agents!

This is a reprint of the original first issue of Killing / Satanik, released in 1966 and in English for the first time. There's an article on the history of European super villains from Fantomas to Diabolik and a "You Solve It" comic also from the first issue. Plus an article about Luciana Paoli (aka Dana, Sadistik's one true love) crammed with pin-ups. These pin ups are different than the ones seen in the SADISTIK Limited Edition: HELL WAITS! (which is still available until the end of August).

Besides Luciana Paoli as Dana, this issue marks the first appearance of many actors who would become regular members of the cast, like Rico Boido as a KGB killer, Gabriella Giorgelli, Renato Baldini and Erno Crisa... all under the capable directorial hands of Rosario Borelli. The cover features actress/model Mary Arden.

SADISTIK 1 made its premiere at the 2006 San Diego Comic Convention where advance copies were given to the press and industry professionals for promotion. All hail Argentina's real revolutionary: KILING! While a certain Argentinean born revolutionary (now as ubiquitous as Mickey Mouse on t-shirts) was responsible for thousands of very real, horrible deaths in the labor camps he created, our favorite fictional murderer was a revolutionary in his own right considering the cultural climate of the time.

During Juan Peron’s regime, Argentina had strict censorship in place, yet somehow the Diabolikal Super Kriminal slipped through! When the King of Crime appeared in 1970s Argentina as Kiling some of the more lascivious scenes (but not violent ones) were trimmed. The reprints of the European editions were so popular that when they ran out of stories to publish, they created new dramas featuring the The Imperceptible One and Dana!

And hoping to repeat the success, they created the Sexy Super Spy, Namur and Yorga, The Lizard Man (in a Carlo Rambaldi mask). And in the best tradition of costumed comic characters, they all had crossovers.

To American comics fans, this is like a weird alternate reality of 1970s comic books… with photos instead of drawings and in another language! And the average fan can’t get much exposure to these rare foreign comics. Until now.

Comicfix, the publishers of America’s first photo novel series SADISTIK, will be releasing a new periodical, KILLING TIME, about the genre around the world.

KILLING TIME will be the first magazine about international photo novels and will focus on the weird side of it. The first issue will have an article on the Spanish version of SADISTIK in South America by Roberto Barreiro and coverage on how The Diabolikal One was censored in Argentina by Diego Baccino.

More SADISTIK Actor Pages Added!

Some of the most viewed pages on the goSADISTIK website are in the Actors' Gallery... and not just because of the saucy vintage pin-ups! Most of the actors in the SADISTIK photo novels were veterans of the European film world, working with internationally famous directors and stars and acting in many classics and cult favorites.

The three new actors just added to the site are ones who had very interesting careers and though you may not have heard of them, you have most likely seen many of the films they appeared in.

Erno Crisa may not be a familiar name, but you're aware of (or even seen) many films he has been in and if he hadn't had an untimely death at a young age, he probably would've become a bigger international star. Despite his short life, he was in over 50 films and in many issues of SADISTIK. He worked with such directors as Vittorio De Sica and René Clément and co-starred with Gina Lollobrigida, Marcello Mastroianni and Michèle Mercier. He was in the well-regarded Purple Noon (later remade as The Talented Mr. Ripley with Matt Damon) and portrayed the title character in the very first adaptation of the controversial Lady Chatterly's Lover.

Mary Arden was a model and actress who was threatened by the The King of Crime in many issues and covers to boot. Though she had a short film career, she made an impression in the seminal Blood and Black Lace from director Mario Bava. She was also in a film based on another comic book anti-hero, Kriminal, by director Umberto Lenzi. Mary can still be frequently seen on TV and magazines in her long-time capacity as a corporate image consultant.

The third personality added to the Actors Gallery had about as many names as films he appeared in, Giovanni Di Benedetto. He had so many aliases even imdb.com can't keep up with his credits. This gentleman has been in film and TV for over 50 years and is still at it! Some of the talent he has been associated with includes Kirk Douglas (in Ulysses), Mario Bava, Roger Vadim, Anthony Quinn, Jack Palance, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr. and even our own lovely Luciana Paoli! Perhaps most wild is that he was in the trilogy of classic terror films by Dario Argento starting with The Bird with the Crystal Plumage. He is also scheduled to appear in the SADISTIK documentary The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal to talk about his photo novel roles.

Fans of luscious Luciana Paoli, who played the lover and partner-in-crime of the King of Crime in the SADISTIK chronicles, will be happy to hear we've posted a virtual Lucianapalooza (not to be confused with Bond girl Luciana Paluzzi) of her pin-ups on our site.
Luciana appeared in many magazine photo spreads and some incredibly odd films but she is most dear to many as Dana, the inseparable companion to the Diabolikal Super-Kriminal. On the Luciana Paoli Actors Gallery, we have just posted some new inspiring images of the Queen of Crime. See rare photos of Luciana from American and Italian pin-up magazines, films and her role as another sidekick, Eva, in the Lord X photo novel.

In the next few weeks we will be posting some more saucy pin ups of Luciana from the film Casanova '70 she did with Marcello Mastroianni, and pictures from another photo novel series she was in, the 007-ish James Bix!

Our first posting offers the international exclusive on a new movie that will excite acolytes of the King of Crime... and make new fans! Italian director SS-Sunda is producing an incredible documentary called The Diabolikal Super Kriminal! SS-Sunda has does the almost impossible by rounding up interviews with the cast and crew of the original photo novels! Hard-core fans of Sadistik and Euro-Trash films of the 1960s and 70s will drool over conversations with such legendary actors as Rico Boido, Erna Scheurer, Gabriella Giorgelli, the son of director Rosario Borelli and many others!

Perhaps most stunning is that the greatest mystery surrounding the series is solved... Who was behind the Mask of Death? Rumors abounded that director Borelli, a photo novel star himself, portrayed the skeleton-clad killer. In an interview, Borelli dispelled such notions and claimed even he didn't know who it was. Well, it can now be told that the true identity of the Genius of Crime is... revealed in the documentary! Here's another exclusive: A recent photo of the actor who played the Diabolikal Super Kriminal wearing the original mask!
